About Tails on the Town
Tails on the Town is a one woman operation owned by Maria Sandomenico. I have been walking dogs since 1999 and look forward to many more years! I adore all creatures, but my true love lies with dogs. I have had many experiences, with all types of pups and situations, and am grateful for the knowledge this have provided me to better serve my client's and their dogs. Being the proud owner of three happy mutts, I know the importance of their well being and am committed to taking care of your canine, the way I do my own.
Quality, not quantity, is my motto when it comes to dog walking. My clients have the peace of mind knowing that I am the only person who has access to their home and takes care of their best friend. I never take on more than I can handle, which gives me the flexibiltiy, not only to accomodate my clients, but to build personal relationships with each dog and their person.
I've finished my first round of behavioral training with Renee Payne, a Brooklyn based dog trainer, and am now working towards my certification as a behaviorist. I want to gain a deeper insight into the canine mind and apply this knowledge to make me the best pet care provider I can be. Through my training I've learned to teach basic puppy obedience and deal with such behavior issues as leash aggression. I subscribe to the positive reinforcement model of training, and enjoy using clicker training in my work with dogs.
I also had the great fortune to work with Steve Diller, a well known dog behaviorist, based in Westchester County, who first introduced me to positive reinforcement training.
I have spent many hours volunteering at my local animal shelters: PAWS of Seattle, SPCA of Westchester County, BAFN of Brooklyn and Sean Casey Animal Rescue. We all have the responsiblity to better serve the creatures that may be less fortunate than ours.
I bring all of this knowledge and compassion to my work and have ten years of happy dog clients to prove it!
