Tails on the Town Dog Boarding New Paltz NY_edited.png

Your dog's home away from home in the Hudson Valley

Personalized dog boarding and training in New Paltz, NY — where every guest gets fresh air and our full attention in a cozy, family setting.

We've spent 25 years learning what dogs need. Turns out, it's pretty much what we all need: some fun, love, attention, and a good spot on the couch.

Tails on the Town is Maria and Doug — dog parents, advocates in the rescue and adoption community, and people who've devoted our adult lives to caring for our own dogs and our clients' dogs.

We started in Brooklyn, where we spent 18 years caring for the city's dogs. Now we're upstate, with a fenced backyard, room to breathe, and a strictly limited number of guests at any one time. That's not a policy — it's a philosophy. Your dog is not a number on a run sheet. They're houseguests.

Maria is a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer with 25 years of experience and a certified Pet Loss Grief Counselor. (Read about Maria's entry into pet grief work in the New York Times.) We're insured, bonded, and true dog lovers.

Services offered: Overnight boarding · Dog training · Pet grief support · NYC–New Paltz transport

What makes us different from a kennel (everything)

A real home, not a facility.

Your dog sleeps where we sleep, eats when we eat, and gets 4–5 outings a day.

Limited guests, always.

We keep our boarding numbers small on purpose. Every dog gets individual attention, not a rotation.

25 years of experience.

We've handled puppies, seniors, reactive dogs, and anxious first-timers. We've seen it all and we don't rattle easily.

Cranberry

Maria and Doug have been taking care of my precious Cranberry for many years (I have lost count). Not only are they lovely people to work with, but they also happen to be clients. I know firsthand how deeply they love animals. I trust them implicitly to look after Cranberry. What a relief to have Maria and Doug for when we are out of town.

FAQ

Do you accept all dogs? We require a meet & greet for all new dogs before their first stay — it's the best way to make sure it's a good fit for everyone, your dog included. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, housetrained, and on flea & tick prevention.

How does transport from NYC work? We offer pickup and drop-off service between Brooklyn/NYC and our home in New Paltz. We drive our own car, not a large van packed with crates, and make sure your dog is safe and cozy. Timing is arranged per visit and we're happy to work with your schedule, while also accommodating the needs of other guests. Rates are $45 one-way, and $90 round trip.

What does a typical day look like for my dog? Four to five outings a day: Our fenced backyard lends itself well to both romping and sunning. We also go on leashed walks along the Rail Trail (we like to get our steps in, too!), or visit the local dog parks. Your dogs days are designed with their needs and temperament in mind! We keep boarding numbers low so your dogs always get real attention — not just supervised group time.
